Our client, known for their refined taste and exquisite sense of style, desired a luxurious, statement piece to elevate the splendour of their opulent home. They envisioned an eye-catching, bold design that would not only serve as a testament to their sophisticated aesthetic but also seamlessly blend with their existing decor. The challenge was set: create a unique piece that embodies both contemporary artistry and timeless elegance.
Concept development
We conceptualised a bespoke piece incorporating the exquisite technique of contemporary Japanese lacquering paired with 23k gold leaf gilded embellishments. The goal was to craft a masterpiece that would stand as a focal point within the client's home, exuding both grandeur and modern sophistication. To achieve a world-class creation, collaboration with renowned experts was essential. We partnered with the illustrious gilding studio led by our esteemed friend and colleague, Bill Gauthier. Bill's exceptional expertise in gilding ensured that the gold leaf application would be nothing short of perfection.

The preparation of the piece began with our team meticulously lacquering and polishing the surface. This step was crucial to create a flawless foundation for the gold leaf application. The lacquering process involved multiple layers, each carefully applied and polished to achieve a mirror-like finish. The application of 23k gold leaf was the pièce de résistance. Bill Gauthier brought his unparalleled skill to the project, gilding the piece with remarkable precision. The challenge was to gild the intricate details while ensuring durability against the daily demands it would endure, all without compromising the brilliance of the gold.
