Design brief
Nestled in the heart of Marylebone, one of London’s most sought-after residential areas, the new high-end development of 100 George Street comprises 41 luxury apartments. In the world of luxury real estate, the details of a show apartment are paramount—these spaces are not just for showcasing living potential, but for embodying an aspirational lifestyle. On behalf of a joint venture of Native Land, Derwent London and The Portman Estate, the prestigious contractor Knight Harwood partnered with the renowned London-based interior design studio Chapman Eugène to bring this vision to life, ensuring the highest standard of craftsmanship and sophistication.
When it came time to create the perfect finish for the show apartment, the studio entrusted Faux Creation to transform the spaces with a luxurious yet durable aesthetic.
CHALLENGES
Given the apartment’s purpose as a high-traffic showpiece, the team faced the challenge of balancing opulent visual appeal with the necessary robustness to endure the demands of constant viewing. The goal was to mimic the rich, sophisticated aesthetic of polished plaster while adding an element of durability that would allow it to maintain its pristine appearance throughout the lifespan of the show apartment. With this in mind, Faux Creation employed a bespoke solution, carefully blending traditional techniques with modern technology to achieve the perfect harmony of elegance and durability.
With a limited window of time on-site, the Faux Creation team worked closely with the design team at Chapman Eugène during construction to develop a range of samples, refining their approach until they achieved a finish that would meet the exacting requirements of the project.
The team meticulously crafted their finishes using traditional glaze techniques, applying layers of finely crafted materials to achieve the desired depth and luster. Each layer was perfected to ensure the final product mirrored the luminous quality of polished plaster, but with the additional benefit of enhanced protection and ease of maintenance.
the results
The result is an apartment where every detail speaks to the exceptional standards of luxury and design. The decorative finishes not only elevate the interiors but also embody the philosophy of Chapman Eugène—subtlety, sophistication, and longevity. Faux Creation’s mastery in creating bespoke finishes helped bring a unique touch to each room, enhancing the apartment’s refined aesthetic without compromising on practicality. The polished plaster effect, now more durable thanks to the modern lacquers, is a perfect example of how traditional techniques can be fused with contemporary materials to meet the demands of luxury living.
